They love to discredit us by reducing our experience to going to Sunday school a few times. Why is this always their go-to? Oh, right. It’s building a straw man they can easily knock down.

I rarely resort to ad hominem.

I think that making fun of a person’s appearance is generally pretty shitty.

But sometimes I go for ad hominem lite, which is just posting a picture of them with no context underneath their stupid comment.

I let the picture speak for itself…like I did with Jacob.

He didn’t like my post and commented this:

That’s it. No mean words. No hate. Nothing. Just a picture of him.

Hey, he thought it was worthy of posting on Facebook, so I thought I’d post it, too.

He got mad.

I guess maybe he wasn’t a fan of the picture that he posted on his own Facebook page? My bad, I guess.

You’re probably wondering if I got the authorities involved. I didn’t, but that’s definitely the closest I’ve come to calling the police when it came to a commenter. I didn’t think I had much to worry about at the end of the day, though.

They call those who disagree with them “snowflakes,” yet they want to fight because I criticize religion and post pictures of them.

I asked him why he was so angry.

I don’t remember what he said after that, and the screenshots have all gotten a bit jumbled up, but I asked him for some clarification:

As I often do, I told Jacob that I hope his day improves.

His response?

I know that I spend way too much time engaging with sad people like Jacob.

I keep telling myself that I’m going to do it less often. Maybe someday I will.

My favorite thing ever has to be when Christians tell me about myself.

They tell me that I really do believe in God in my heart.

They tell me that I’ve never read the Bible.

Or that I didn’t understand it when I did.

Or that I’m gay.

Or that I’m single.

Or that I think about God 24/7 (they’ve never heard of content creation).

Or, if you’re Leah, you think that I’m mad.

Oh, Leah, I think that YOU (not me) have fallen for the oldest trick in the book.

The trick is that an evil fictional entity has the power to deceive us.

The book is the Bible.

A very common thing for Christians to do is tell me that I’ve been hurt by people, and that’s why I don’t believe in God.

That’s just silly. People hurt people, whether that’s in church or outside of it.

My church experiences were mostly good.

Answering to someone isn’t a problem. They think that we reject their theology so that we can live in sin. That’s just a weird thing to say.

You’re telling me that a God spoke to some goat herders in west Asia several thousand years ago, giving them rules to follow, and then, a few thousand years later, he sent his son/self to die so that we wouldn’t have to spend eternity without him, and, just because I don’t believe that, I’m mad that I have to answer to that God I don’t believe exists?

Makes no sense.

Is there anything more insecure than a straight, white, American MAGA Christian?

That’s not rhetorical. I’m seriously wondering that.

As a guy who posts content that’s critical of Christianity… more specifically American Protestantism… more specifically Christian nationalism, my videos often end up on the wrong side of the algorithm.

See, I make videos for my fellow nonbelievers. People who are atheist, agnostic, or deconstructing their faith. Spiritual people are also welcome. Even progressive Christians are welcome.

I make videos to provide some levity in a world that’s incredibly heavy. My hopes are to generate some laughs, make posts that are relatable, and to create some community for those who don’t have it or maybe lost it when they left the church.

I love connecting with likeminded people, however, social media loves to say “Hmm… who would absolutely hate this video?” and then proceed to show it to them.

I get it. We live in an engagement world.

The more people comment on a post, the more it is shown to other people, and that gets you comments like these:

Every comment that I’m going to show you was made in the past week. This is an everyday occurrence for these people. I’ll save the juiciest one for the end.

But I still can’t make myself believe something that I don’t.

“Atheism is a religion,” they’ll say, yet they’re incapable of explaining how that’s the case.

What world is Dan Rastatter living in?

I think Dan’s comment says a lot about religion.

Is the only reason he’s not doing those things because he thinks he’ll face afterlife punishment if he does?

My take would be this:

Christians might actually be the ones getting assurances.

Example: Jeffrey Dahmer. He murdered and ate people, yet he (and many others) think that he’s Heaven-bound because he repented and became a Christian while in prison.

If every sin they commit can be forgiven, it seems like they’re the ones who can literally get away with murder in the grand scheme of things.

80% of Evangelicals voted for Donald Trump, and a huge portion of them continue to support him, no matter what.

I used to LOVE Twitter back in the day.

I was on there every day, interacting with people.

My main reason for using it was for sports updates (Go Blue, Go Pats, Go Braves) and comedy; I loved seeing the witty things that others came up with.

But then… Elon bought it, and it’s become a cess pool of disgustingness.

If I open the app, there’s a 37% chance that the first thing I’ll see is someone getting killed on video in a horrific way.

The other 63% is political content from the worst people on Earth.

I rarely use that app anymore.

I was excited when Threads came along because it had most of the good things about OG Twitter and few of the bad things about Elon’s Shit Machine.

But Threads has its own problems, too.

Some of the worst engagement bait in history is posted there.

Dumb shit like this:

They’re not looking for answers. There is no wedding. They just want your comments to boost their account because they’re likely selling some dogshit course or hawking Amazon links.

But, overall, it’s a good platform (except for Meta stealing our data and poisoning our souls).

There are, though, a LOT of Christians there, so I’m trying to do my part to keep them in check.

I love that they act like it’s a no-brainer.

What do you have to lose?

It’s not that we’re afraid; it just makes no sense to do that.

I can’t force myself to believe something that I don’t.

Christians loooooove to tell former Christians “you were never a real Christian.”

They’ll cite 1 John 2:19:

“They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.”

So, let me get this straight: a man (who is not Jesus) said that if we leave, we were never one of them?

And this was written decades after Jesus died.

Wouldn’t it be convenient for them to write something like that?

“If you leave this belief system, you were never really a part of it.”

That’s dismissive, yet effective.

It’s also pretty culty.

Christians on the internet love to cycle through the same few sayings when talking to atheists:

“Rent free!”

“Why don’t you talk about (insert other religion here)?”

“You really do believe or else you wouldn’t talk about god.”

“Imagine making a whole page to (blah blah blah).”

But, the most common one that I’ve gotten lately goes something like this:

“You sure do talk a lot about a God that you don’t believe in,” or something along those lines.

The response is simple: It’s not god. It’s you.

I don’t believe that your god exists.

I speak of him hypothetically because you believe he’s real and tell me all of the ways that I’m disappointing him and what he’s going to do to me after I die, etc.

If you’d stop talking about him, I can assure you that I would, too.

Simple.

Unfortunately, god and the bible are weaponized by Christians.

Not all Christians.

It’s similar to “not all men.”

When women say they’d choose the bear over men, it’s because so many men are shitty.

There’s a valid reason to be leery of men until they prove otherwise.

Same goes for Christians, in my opinion.

Sure, there are many that are fine people, but I’ll let their actions speak.

Good Christians shouldn’t get defensive when people criticize their religion, just like good men shouldn’t get defensive when women criticize men.

They should understand that there are many awful ones amongst them.

I talk about Christianity because that’s the religion that has affected and continues to affect my life the most.

Most Americans are Christians. My whole family are Christians. Many of my friends are Christians. Christians are constantly pining for prayer to be put back in schools & book bans. God is on our money. Christians knock on doors, ask what church you go to, tell you they’ll pray for your soul. God is brought up in the workplace. Women don’t have autonomy because religious people want to dictate what they do with their bodies.

It would be irresponsible to not call out the bullshit.

You know, for years, I didn’t post anything about atheism or leaving Christianity on my personal accounts, but I’ve been doing a lot more of that lately.

People that I used to go to church with are seeing my page. Friends. Family members.

…and friends of family.

One shared a post that I couldn’t help but feel like was directed at me.

It sucks that they view us as projects.

We’re a battle to be won.

The worst part is that they say this kind of stuff while STILL supporting Donald Trump.

Are we really the ones who need saving?

They wonder if the window is closing on my soul, but I’m wondering what the fuck it’s going to take for them to wake up.

“You can live as an example.”

WHAT EXAMPLE???

You think women who are raped should be forced to give birth to that child.

I don’t hate these people. They might think that, since I speak about the harmful aspects of their religion, but those things are separate.

I just think they’re very, very indoctrinated.

As a person who makes content about being a former Christian, I get the following comments frequently:

• Why do you talk about a god you don’t believe in?

• You must really believe deep down to post about god so much.

• How do you hate a god that doesn’t exist?

And also “you made a whole page….” blah blah blah, which is the path Rachel took:

Ok, so the first part of her comment makes sense. I’m used to people saying that.

“You made a whole Facebook page…” yet they miss the point entirely. My content isn’t for god. It’s definitely not for Christians.

It’s for people who don’t believe.

Then, her comment got weird. The restorer is coming…

And then it got weirder. Who the fuck is Isaac Gilchrist?

The only one I could find is this poor bastard:
