I fell for the oldest trick in the book.

My favorite thing ever has to be when Christians tell me about myself.
They tell me that I really do believe in God in my heart.
They tell me that I’ve never read the Bible.
Or that I didn’t understand it when I did.
Or that I’m gay.
Or that I’m single.
Or that I think about God 24/7 (they’ve never heard of content creation).
Or, if you’re Leah, you think that I’m mad.
Oh, Leah, I think that YOU (not me) have fallen for the oldest trick in the book.
The trick is that an evil fictional entity has the power to deceive us.
The book is the Bible.
A very common thing for Christians to do is tell me that I’ve been hurt by people, and that’s why I don’t believe in God.
That’s just silly. People hurt people, whether that’s in church or outside of it.
My church experiences were mostly good.
Answering to someone isn’t a problem. They think that we reject their theology so that we can live in sin. That’s just a weird thing to say.
You’re telling me that a God spoke to some goat herders in west Asia several thousand years ago, giving them rules to follow, and then, a few thousand years later, he sent his son/self to die so that we wouldn’t have to spend eternity without him, and, just because I don’t believe that, I’m mad that I have to answer to that God I don’t believe exists?
Makes no sense.
Leah, you don’t know me at all, but you do get a gold medal for condescension! 🥇

The thing that always gets me about comments like that (beside the obvious projection and the most base line apologetics) is the idea of "you're just mad at people who hurt you."
They understand and recognize that Christians and Christian institutions regularly cause immense harm to others, and yet they bring the blame and responsibility to the victims without admonishing to their own institutions.
If that kind of harm is so pervasive within the Christian Church that they can recognize it without thinking about it, then maybe God isn't the one being worshiped behind those sanctuary doors.

The Counter Cootie deceives the mind to believe that the Spaghetti Monster forgot to set the timer. The Spaghetti Monster did, in fact, remember to set the timer. I have not had a No Yolks, Pastafarian life, but I will tell you, SpaghiMon is real, SpaghiMon does contain gluten, and BabyMon salts the water, whether or not you have high blood pressure. I fill the saucepan so SpaghiMon can fill the colander in the way only Durum can, just like my tummy was filled. Filling the pot now, not because you don’t know how to boil water, but because SpaghiMon does fill colanders and he filled my colander when I was gluten-sensitive, and I will give you the water that he freely drains. Spaghetti Monster legs be upon you, wet noodles for your meat (or alternative protein) balls. 🍝”
