Hmmm. I don't know that they see you as a project; from what I'm reading, this person doesn't think they have to do anything. What I'm reading is that they've already determined they disagree with how you live your life, and that, passive-aggressively, they wanted to tell you that time is running out for you to change your behavior to what they think is appropriate. And although they know they *could* expend effort to try to change you, they won't because it wouldn't matter, because only Jesus can really do the job of changing you. And, obviously, it's not their fault when you go to hell.
So the appropriate answer is to roll your eyes and just move on.
