Sleeping through sermons.
Gooooch.
Welcome to Holy Nonsense, where we laugh at religious absurdity!
Thank you to Kooky, Laura P, and Vel for becoming the newest paid subscribers!
Today’s Holy Nonsense comes from Bryan Gooch:
Gooch…may I call you Gooch? Gooch, re-read your first sentence.
“I love how godless heathens like to tell Christians what their god says and thinks.”
Now, switch godless heathens and Christians, and you know exactly how we feel. Y’all tell us what your god says and thinks constantly. A god that we don’t believe in. You quote from a collection of 66 books that mean zilch to us. You stand on the streets and tell us that we’re going to hell. I have just as much right to talk about your god as you do, even if I don’t believe.
They love to discredit us by reducing our experience to going to Sunday school a few times. Why is this always their go-to? Oh, right. It’s building a straw man they can easily knock down.
His whole second paragraph is punctuationless slop.
“A party of people who believe men can become women.” You believe snakes talk.
“Abortion is healthcare.” Your view of abortion is more black and white than a NEWSPAPER!
Get it because they’re black and white?
Dude thinks kids can’t know who they are, but I’m sure he’s fine with them giving their lives to Christ. Right, Gooch?
It makes me sad when someone refers to immigrants as illegals. They love to treat them as subhuman. Just a number. A nuisance. These are people who are just trying to make their lives better. I guess it’s a good thing that you were born in the good ol’ US of A, huh, Gooch?
Gooch is just like many other straight, white, cis American Christians: he just wants to live as comfortably as possible.
I want to make Jesus Unfollower my full-time mission, but I can’t do it without you. If you find value in what I do, consider becoming a paid subscriber!
Remember: you don’t need a god to be good!

That man named after the taint, trying to lecture you about…What now?
Poor, poor Gooch. Imagine spending a large chunk of your life constantly worrying, studying words written by flawed humans thousands of years ago, and obeying nonsensical rules, performing arcane rituals, and forcing yourself into accepting -- perhaps even genuinely *believing* things that are clearly, obviously, provably false, just in case death isn't as final as science demonstrates it is, and there's one particular supernatural judge planning to go over your entire existence with a fine-tooth comb to make sure you pass muster.
You can't blame him for being mad at us. Look at us unbelievers -- we just live our lives. For the most part, we behave like perfectly civilized human beings, even though we claim no one is forcing us to do that -- why on earth aren't we just constantly lying, stealing, killing, lusting after people and stuff we can't have, and dishonoring our parents and spouses? Why on earth do we bother taking a day off once a week? It doesn't make any sense! What the hell is wrong with us, actually thinking that non-white people are genuinely people like white people? Why don't we care about what happens sexually behind consenting adults' closed doors, whether whatever acts are being performed are done solely for procreation or for -- gasp -- pleasure?! Don't we know how harmful that is to... to... wait a minute - remind me how that harms anyone enthusiastically consenting to it?
And you know what the worst part is? We're not actively trying to stop them from wasting their lives on religion. We just happily go along with our own lives, agreeing to disagree.
