What are you afraid of?
Christians of Threads.
Welcome to Holy Nonsense, where we laugh at religious absurdity!
Today’s edition is presented by Reign of Error! On 4/23, Axis Mundi is hosting a wide-ranging conversation on Christian nationalism, escalating tensions with Iran, and the dangerous resurgence of “holy war” rhetoric in American politics.
I used to LOVE Twitter back in the day.
I was on there every day, interacting with people.
My main reason for using it was for sports updates (Go Blue, Go Pats, Go Braves) and comedy; I loved seeing the witty things that others came up with.
But then… Elon bought it, and it’s become a cess pool of disgustingness.
If I open the app, there’s a 37% chance that the first thing I’ll see is someone getting killed on video in a horrific way.
The other 63% is political content from the worst people on Earth.
I rarely use that app anymore.
I was excited when Threads came along because it had most of the good things about OG Twitter and few of the bad things about Elon’s Shit Machine.
But Threads has its own problems, too.
Some of the worst engagement bait in history is posted there.
Dumb shit like this:
They’re not looking for answers. There is no wedding. They just want your comments to boost their account because they’re likely selling some dogshit course or hawking Amazon links.
But, overall, it’s a good platform (except for Meta stealing our data and poisoning our souls).
There are, though, a LOT of Christians there, so I’m trying to do my part to keep them in check.
I love that they act like it’s a no-brainer.
What do you have to lose?
Um… my critical thinking skills. My dignity.
It’s not that we’re afraid; it just makes no sense to do that.
I can’t force myself to believe something that I don’t.
Say to yourself today, “I accept Vishnu as my god.” What are you afraid of?

A wide-ranging conversation on Christian nationalism, escalating tensions with Iran, and the dangerous resurgence of “holy war” rhetoric in American politics. Drawing on their expertise in religion and political extremism, the panel will analyze how theological narratives—particularly those rooted in spiritual warfare and dominionism—are shaping public discourse, foreign policy attitudes, and grassroots sentiment. Together, they will explore how these ideas frame global conflict in apocalyptic terms, blur the line between faith and state power, and raise urgent questions about democracy, pluralism, and the consequences of sacralizing political violence.

I actually just deleted my Threads account and I’ve indefinitely deactivated my Facebook account. I realized I’m at a point where I’ve recognized I just don’t have the patience for their Holy Nonsense. Their smug attitudes and faux humility. Even some of the groups and pages I used to find some refuge in tend to get infiltrated by Christians who think they have that *one* argument you haven’t heard. That maybe they will be able to show you the light and proselytize you. I’m tired of trying to even reason with them. Maybe someday I’ll rejoin the fray but for now, even though it’s been really years since I deconstructed, it’s still too much at times to be around that nonsense directly. I’ll just consume content like this from afar.
Book recommend, to anyone interested-Susan Jacoby's terrific "Freethinkers." The next time someone angrily declares this to be a "Christian Nation" know better, with details and history. Thomas Paine, Mark Twain, Robert Ingersoll, these were not triffling people. 👍
